It is important for your workstation to be set up correctly to reduce the risk of injuries such as back pain, neck pain and overuse injuries like tennis elbow and repetitive strain injuries of the wrist.

The following guidelines will assist you in ensuring your work station is set up correctly:

  • Sit with your bottom at the back of your chair with a lumbar support in your lower back
  • Make sure your chair is properly adjusted
  • Feet should be flat on the floor with your knees slightly lower than your hips (if your desk is too high you may need a footrest)
  • Pull your chair in close to your desk so you do not lean forward
  • The top of your computer screen should be at eye level and straight in front of you
  • Your computer screen should be approximately arms distance away from you
  • Your elbows should be at right angles when you type
  • Keep your wrists in line with your forearms
  • Keep your keyboard and mouse close to you so you do not over stretch
  • Use a document holder next to your screen if required
  • Take regular breaks away from your computer at least every hour, walk around and have a stretch
